Driving Sustainability and Inclusion: Field Visit for the GREENSTEP Project in Tunisia

As part of our ongoing commitment to fostering green development in the Mediterranean region, the EuroVértice team recently conducted a field visit to Tunisia to monitor the progress of the GREENSTEP Project, an initiative funded under the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) Grant Scheme.

The GREENSTEP Project, led by ICU in collaboration with local partners, addresses critical challenges in the MENA region by promoting green skills, employment, and entrepreneurship. It focuses on sectors vital to sustainability, including waste management, tourism, energy, and agriculture, in Tunisia, Lebanon, and Jordan.

Key Highlights of the Visit:

1. Engaging with Local Partners:

We met with AAO (Les Amis des Oiseaux), a crucial partner working on youth training in ecotourism and environmental protection. The passion and expertise of the AAO team were evident as we discussed strategies for sustainable development tailored to local needs.

We also held strategic discussions with ICU, the project leader, to evaluate the current progress and outline next steps.

2. Empowering MSMEs Through Training:

The field visit included participation in MSME training sessions in Béja, where small sustainable business entrepreneurs received expert guidance to develop green business plans.

3. Commitment to Inclusivity:

A standout feature of the GREENSTEP Project is its dedication to inclusivity, with women comprising at least 50% of the beneficiaries. This ensures the project contributes not only to economic resilience but also to gender equity across the region.

A Shared Vision for a Greener Future

This visit underscored the transformative potential of collaborative efforts. By equipping youth, empowering MSMEs, and fostering sustainable practices, the GREENSTEP Project aligns with the UfM’s mission to build resilience and sustainability in the Mediterranean region.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to ICU, AAO, and all stakeholders for their dedication to this initiative. Together, we are taking meaningful steps toward a greener and more inclusive future.
